Directions
Arriving by Plane: if you are
traveling by airplane, there are four (4) possible airports to come in
from. This would include Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota, and St. Petersburg /
Clearwater. The majority of the decent priced and convenient flights come
into Tampa. However you can sometimes get really cheap fares into Orlando
and St. Petersburg / Clearwater. Orlando is a major airport but is about a
two (2) hour drive to the Beach House. The St. Petersburg / Clearwater
airport is “regional” but offers a limited schedule with discounted fares.
That airport is about 45 minutes away versus Tampa which is about a 50
minute drive to the Beach House. The Sarasota airport is about 40 minutes
away, is a decent sized airport – but has limited scheduling and is usually
the most expensive of all the airports to fly into.
Arriving by Car: if you are
driving, you will still come in the same basic way using the main interstate
roads. So whether you are flying or driving the directions are the same.
However there are a few short-cuts that will give you an understanding of
how to get on and off the Island.
From the North – you can
come down either I-275 and over the Skyway Bridge or down I-75. The typical
direction if you fly into the Tampa airport or the St. Petersburg /
Clearwater airport, would cross the bridge using I-275 (a spectacular sight
and view) going into Palmetto and get off on US-19. This takes you thru
Palmetto and across either Business 41 or regular 41 into Bradenton. From
there both of these roads run into Manatee Avenue or Highway 64. you would
then go West (turn right) until you run onto the Island and then follow the
Island directions.
From the South – if coming
from the Sarasota airport, you would exit from the airport onto University
Avenue (turn right) going West to Highway 41. You would then turn right
again going North until you run into Cortez Road West, turn left to go West
to the Island.
From the East – if coming
from the Orlando airport (I-4) or driving in from the Interstate which would
be I-75 (either North or South) there is an exit for Manatee Avenue /
Highway 64 and then proceed West to the Island.
From the West – you have to
be coming in by boat ! Call me for docking directions !
